Understanding Residential Water Damage is a 1-hour seminar that presents all types of water damage both covered and not generally covered by a typical House Insurance Policy. The water damage categories includes: sudden and accidental; multiple types of sewer back up; overland and ground water. The purpose of covering these types of water damage is to provide a basic understanding of all water damage to assist the insurance professional when talking with home owners about their property damage. The seminar includes a verbal description of water damage types, pictures and or short video clips to show the action. Understanding “In Place Drying” *

Understanding “In Place Drying” is a 1-hour seminar that covers the advantages of using a mitigation contractor applying this strategy when approaching a water loss. The IICRC standards are introduced, understanding of the drying process, and the advantages to all the interested parties. The purpose of explaining this mitigation process is to provide a basic understanding of “In Place Drying” to assist the insurance professional in their conversations with home owners about property damage. Understanding Sump Pumps and Backwater Valves *

Understanding Sump Pumps and Backwater Valves is a 1-hour seminar that covers sump pumps, back up sump pumps and multiple types of backwater valves. The purpose of reviewing these items is to provide a basic understanding of prevention, and to assist the insurance professional in their conversations with home owners about property damage. The presentation includes verbal descriptions, actual backwater valves to hold and examine, pictures and short video clips to show these devices in action. Understanding Residential Construction *

Understanding Residential Construction is a 3-hour seminar that presents 50 steps in building a house. The purpose of covering this steps is to provide a basic understanding of a house and its components to assist the insurance professional when talking with home owners about their property damage. These steps start with planning, excavation, footings, foundations through to painting, flooring and final inspection. The seminar includes a verbal description of every step, pictures and or short video clips to show the action. A PDF of the presentation (including active hyperlinks) will provide every attendee a resource for future reference.

Dave Johnson

Dave Johnson grew up in a residential construction family. Following secondary school, Dave attended Fanshawe College in London where he completed the Construction Engineering Technician Program. Dave worked in the construction industry as a General Contractor, building new homes, additions, renovations, agricultural, and light commercial buildings. As a Project Manager, he has built many institutional and commercial buildings. Over the past 20 years, Dave has been served the property insurance field, first as owner of a Full-Service Property Damage Restoration Franchise (purchased in 1996 and sold in 2002,) and then as a Property Insurance Consultant, Property Risk Inspector, and a Property Damage Appraiser. Dave then worked for Intact Insurance as their Ontario Contractor Vendor Manager. Dave is a Subject Matter Expert. While at Intact, he has presented many seminars on property claim related subjects. Dave is a curious, life-long learner who enjoys increasing his value as a resource through the many courses he has taken. In his new role, he will be sharing his knowledge to a wider audience.
